Status Report

Well, it's November. That means the new year will be here soon, and with it my birthday. I'm not sure how I feel about Christmas in Nevada. It doesn't even really get properly cold here, not unless it's at night, so that rules out having a brandy by the fire at noon. This will be my first birthday away from home in years. If it were practical, I'd fly back to London over the holiday break, but I still have lesson plans to create and tests to prepare.
I believe I'm finally starting to fit in at the university. As you know, I'm the only non-American in my department, and I've had a devil of a time finding common ground with my colleagues. Idly chitchatting has never been easy for me, not unless I've had a few drinks. A young acquaintance recently noted that I must seem almost human after a few belts, and while that's an exaggeration, it does help me relax.
