The opening of a resort was the equivalent of Christmas on the Las Vegas strip. New, fresh, trendy, wealthy: all descriptors that appealed in such a place. So when a project called the Skylark opened its doors to the public, all suites had been booked well in advance for a premium. For those without reservations, there were plenty of opportunities to enjoy the grandeur of the city’s hottest – at least for the moment – night spot.

An elegant gambling hall on the first floor…

A rooftop pool and open-air bar with live music…

A glass-front elevator afforded gorgeous views of a hotel atrium that was open all the way to the roof, and the many indoor balconies between ground level and the thirtieth floor.

A beautiful glass-front elevator offers stunning views of the hotel atrium and indoor balconies... It's too bad it doesn't fully work.

The hotel's crowning achievement is its roof, which features an open-air bar with live music, a dance floor, and two sparkling pools. Servers wander with trays of hors d'oeuvres (included in the cover charge). There will be fireworks at midnight.
