Julianna's trip to Searchlight had proved at least moderately productive. Besides the post office, there was a trailer park and two motels, and a girl fitting Rhiannon's description had been sighted at one of them in the past two weeks. She'd had to bribe the desk clerk with a hundred dollars to get the information, and there was the possibility that it was a false identification, but at least she had a more specific place to look.
There had also been a very small library, and while she hadn't been able to find Next of Kin there, she'd at least gotten the blond author's name. Devin Capshaw. He hadn't looked Irish, at least not to her. Now she had two places to start.
So she took the next day to drive to the shopping mall in Laughlin, where they had a Barnes & Noble, and she located the horror section after asking a clerk for help. There was a picture of Devin on the back of the dustjacket, and the Watcher made herself not study it. There would be time for that later, after she'd read the book.
She bought a cup of hot tea at the bookstore's cafe, then took up a seat at one of their tables. She'd walked a lot since coming to Nevada, and while she was fit her feet could use the occasional rest. In the morning, she would call the motel where the young woman matching Rhiannon's description and see if she could get hold of her. If not, she would drive back to Searchlight and park herself in the lot of the establishment. The Slayer wouldn't be able to hide from her forever, not in a town that size.
