Wolf Girls Are Easy

Having breakfast at the diner meant no dishes to clean up, and since Echo's interview was that afternoon she wanted to concentrate on one thing at the time. She was finishing her waffles, had just asked for another cup of coffee. Her portfolio was on the passenger seat of the van. She'd arranged and re-arranged the pictures until they were in just the right order.

Nervous didn't begin to describe it.

She'd worn the same outfit she'd worn to the event at the Skylark, polished up her boots. Her clothes might not be super-fancy, but they were new and silk was expensive. Artists weren't necessarily known for their choices in couture, anyway.

Echo lifted the fresh cup of coffee to her mouth and sipped at it, then added more sugar. She should have asked for decaf, but they'd been out. At least after today she'd have an answer, whether it was yes or no.

Emmeline rarely ate much in the mornings and spent most of her time meandering about her own thoughts, so it came as no real shock when she discovered that she was entirely out of anything even remotely edible in her kitchen. A few tea bags and a handful of oyster crackers did not a breakfast make, so she found herself wandering in to Searchlight's diner before opening the shop for the day - late, as it were - and perching at a counter stool.

"Wheat toast - dry, if you don't mind - and hot tea, please," she said in an amiable enough tone to the waitress that greeted her with an open order book and a stare. The woman made a noncommittal huffing noise and turned towards the kitchen, leaving Emmeline to her own devices.

Pulling a legal pad and a pen from the brown leather satchel she carried with her, Emmeline began jotting notes for the latest novel she had been click-clacking into life at her old typewriter well into the night before.
